Hello my name is Patricia Barbee and I am the Managing Attorney of the Immigration Department with Bailey & Galyen here at the Dallas office and I am here to talk to you about new developments in the immigration world.
It is summer, Congress is probably all on vacation so not a lot is happening but there are two recent developments that are good for people who are seeking status in the United States or maybe already have a pending petition but not a work permit.
First I want to talk about a recent Supreme Court decision which was Niz-Chavez v. Garland and it came out about a month or 6 weeks ago which reinforced a prior Supreme Court decision from about 3 years ago which basically said the notice to appear which is the document that places a person in deportation proceedings has to have certain information on it and if it does not have that information then it’s not a valid charging document.
