Like most Texans, we were shocked this past weekend when the Astroworld music festival in Houston, Texas, took a dark turn during rapper, Travis Scott’s, headline performance. This terrible and preventable tragedy claimed the lives of 8 and hurt and traumatized many other attendees.
Experts have already come forward highlighting the serious failures on the part of the promoters of the concert, Live Nation, the venue, Astroworld, and potentially the performer, Travis Scott. The planners of the event ignored well established industry standards for managing crowds.
Their planning did not account for catastrophic situations such as crowd crush, crowd collapse, surging, moshing, or stage diving. Venue security further failed to monitor crowd density during the show.
This negligence caused loss of life, injury, and trauma that were foreseeable and preventable by event’s organizers.
