Attorney Lane Haygood has joined Bailey & Galyen as head of the firm’s office in Odessa, Texas. Having worked in private practice the last several years, Lane is well-known and respected in the Texas bar. He has been named a Rising Star on the Texas SuperLawyers list for the past three years.
Lane is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and Baylor Law School. He brings more than 14 years of experience to Bailey & Galyen, where he will handle primarily personal injury cases and be part of the firm’s Catastrophic Injury Department. He has a strong record for recovering substantial judgments and settlements for his clients. Over the last several years, he’s won more than $8 million for personal injury victims.
In addition to personal injury cases, Lane also will handle family law and criminal matters at Bailey & Galyen. He is board-certified in Criminal Appeals and started his career in the district attorney offices of Cameron and Montgomery Counties. He recently received the President’s Award from the Texas Criminal Defendant Lawyers Association, and he teaches a CLE course on DNA-based writs for the Center for American and International Law.
Lane also is a member of the First Amendment Lawyers Association and is actively involved in a number of current cases that could significantly change the landscape of free-speech law in Texas.
Lane attributes much of his success to his commitment to his clients, saying, “If someone comes to me and trusts me with their legal problem, I feel a duty above and beyond my oath as an attorney; I believe I have a moral duty to advocate for them with all the zeal I can muster.” In a recent case involving an overserved bar patron who sustained injuries on the premises, there seemed little hope of any substantial financial recovery. However, after digging deep into public records, Lane discovered available assets and was able to obtain a multi-million-dollar judgment for his client.
